The Wisdom Of A Toddler

March 24, 2007 · 2 Comments

Is it just me, or are young children smarter than they used to be? My daughter is a fount of wisdom. Tonight’s gem was: ‘if you don’t know something, just make it up’.

I laughed, but I was also astounded by her perspective. After all, from the time we first take a test, that’s one aspect of our strategy. We spend a lot of time winging it in all sorts of arenas.

As a writer, there have been times when I have accepted a commission, knowing I would need to brush up on areas where my knowledge was thin. What amazes me is that my daughter has worked this out already. Have you got any youthful wisdom to share?

Shop With Me

March 16, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I’ve added a shop to my main site. I’ve been meaning to do it for a while, ever since Amazon announced Ashop. Of course I have my eye on some other products as well. I’d like to sell books from a publisher as well get into some CafePress stuff. But it’s a start.

Naturally, the books in my shop are on writing, but I may add other categories as time goes on. Has anyone else tried this? How has it worked (or not) for you?

More Proof That Writer Promotion Works

March 15, 2007 · 2 Comments

I’m a big fan of EzineArticles. In fact, it’s my number one site for promoting with articles. I like the ethos of the founder, Chris Knight, who is constantly striving for quality. EzineArticles is not an article farm, but an article resource.

Every so often, I check out the article writing blog, which provides all sorts of info for writers. Imagine my surprise when I found I made the top ten list of authors whose RSS feed had been picked up last month. Ok, I’m at the bottom of that list, but top ten is top ten and even Chris Knight isn’t at the top.

What this says to me is that my writer promotion strategies are working. I am beginning to see proof in all sorts of ways – and this is just the latest one.

Time To Get Clicky

March 11, 2007 · 1 Comment

It’s sometimes nice to talk about a product you really believe in – and I have the chance to do that today with Clicky. What is Clicky, you may ask? Well, it’s only one of the most user friendly web stats packages I have come across.

OK, it’s not the only one I use. I used Metrics till that went belly up, but it never provided me with much that was useful. I have trackers from MyBlogLog and others – and of course I use Google Analytics. But the reason I like Clicky best is because it gives me the statistics I need about my website in a fashion I can understand. No messing about with log files or any of that stuff. Just an easy to understand interface (screenshot) that gives you all the info you could possibly need about your site. (more…)

Writing Lab News Is Growing

March 5, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Have you noticed the shiny new newsletter signup box on the right? That’s because my ezine is growing and I need to change providers. If you’re a regular reader, now’s your chance to sign up again. If you’re not, why not? Try the newsletter – it’s free and pretty useful if I say so myself. Don’t just take my word for it. Look at the index and see what some of the subscribers have said about it. Go on, what are you waiting for?
